This program is designed by a scientist “PhD in Biotechnology and post doctorate in Clinical Medicine” who is also an educator. Her love for Invention led her to learn Patent law and work with inventors on cutting edge technology. Her passion for invention and education to enable our next generation for STEM careers has given birth to this program. Having her college education from India and her higher education from the US, she knows the perfections and imperfections of each education system. This program enables students to become independent thinkers and get ready for their future careers. The spiral curriculum is carefully crafted to learn foundational concepts in Physics,Chemistry and Biology and build on them with applications to solve real life problems. ‘Rome wasn’t built in a day’ and so is the case for any STEM careers. The training for an inquisitive and problem solving skill along with backing of science knowledge doesn’t happen in a day or one year. An early start helps groom our students immensely to achieve academic goals with the right mindset and confidence.

Children are like sponges who absorb everything that surrounds them. They never stop learning and proper stimulation can unleash their potential. We have intentionally designed this program with a goal of creating  love for STEM. Their curious mind is given a direction to absorb science concepts and develop critical thinking skills. Each one of us has had a teacher,a mentor, or a program in our life who has made us love a particular area of academics where we become very passionate and truly want to make a difference. New Edge STEM Academy aspires to be that one program that will make a phenomenal difference in your child’s life.

This program was developed in 2014 by Dr. Karnik who saw the gaps in science education in our school system. Learning each concept for long term retention and understanding requires a more involved method of imparting knowledge. Her first students who started the training through this program were her daughters. The younger one was a second grader and the older one a high schooler. Her older daughter not only graduated high school with admissions to a coveted engineering college with substantial scholarship but also has landed up with a career in Computer sciences. The younger one who got the benefit of maximum years of training has been participating in science fair projects earning awards and accolades such as “INTEL Innovator of the Year” and has been placed first in science and engineering fairs at the state level. Her science fair project that she came up with in sixth grade and worked diligently over the years turned up to be a patentable invention. She not only applied her findings to build a prototype to solve the problem but also patented her invention when she was in 10th grade. She has started her company to market the product as well as has earned “18 under 18 award for this fabulous invention that has a potential for making a difference in community health.

We have coached more than 200-300 students who have participated in science fairs and won numerous awards at regional,state and national levels. These students have been empowered to take on the challenging science courses in high school and have gained admissions into Ivy league schools and many coveted schools with full ride scholarships up to 240,000! These students are now passionately pursuing careers in various fields of medicine, engineering, and pharmacy. 

For a child to hate a particular subject, they are deriving it from their past experience or lack of a better experience. Our program has changed the mindsets of students significantly. Some of the students have started the program thinking they do not care for the subject and within a few months, they are already planning about which field of sciences they want to make their career in. They get inspired by our teachers and their peers and identify some skill sets that they didn’t even know existed in them.

The program is designed for different age levels. Students can start from Kindergarten or at any age between (K-8th grade). Concepts in each subject are revisited with increasing complexity based on the age and level progression. Evaluation tests are designed to understand their level of comprehension.

Most schools focus on ‘Earth Sciences’ since those concepts are more approachable and easier to comprehend. This increases their confidence in science. However, they are deprived of learning and understanding the foundational concepts in Bio, Phy,Chem which are more relevant and important for not only doing well in high school Hons. and AP classes but also for college education. Science education(high school onwards is completely focused on Bio, Phy and Chem principles and applications). Students find Sciences hard in high school due to a complete lack of any foundational knowledge. Our programs fill in those gaps during elementary and middle school years and supplements school science education. Our students not only find high school sciences easy to understand but fare well in the Honors and AP classes due to a strong foundation.

Our program will benefit them immensely since they will get a head start to Honors Bio, Phy and Chem foundation concepts and curriculum and better prepare them for high school.

The program trains your child to think like a scientist engaging in a scientific method in the learning and problem solving process. In addition, they learn the advanced science concepts and different laws that play an integral part in any of the inventions. Together this works very effectively since they have the right tools, skill set  and knowledge to solve challenging questions.
